Could Simple Eye Exercise Help Relieve Your Throbbing Headache?

There are countless articles and blogs that discuss the effects of the coronavirus on the eyes, but what is frequently overlooked is how the virus has still managed to damage the eyes of those who have never been infected. When you were forced into isolation due to the pandemic, your screen time increased which resulted in strained eye muscles and fatigue.

It does sound unfair, but when you were jumping through hoops to avoid the virus you forgot to take care of yourself. As technology has become an integral part of our lives, more so in the past year, Computer Vision Syndrome or Digital Eye Strain has become a problem. But it isn’t just the bright light from your screens that’s causing your eye fatigue.

Causes of Weak Eye Muscles

Staring at your computer/smartphone all day can result in eye strain causing dry eyes, blurred vision and even headaches. But it’s not just the digital screens that cause weak eye muscles and fatigue. Other causes that required intense use of eye muscles include 一

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Driving
  • Exposure to dry moving air from a fan or air conditioner

All of the above activities often cause the muscles around your eyes to get fatigued and weaken due to lack of stimulation. Other weak eye muscle symptoms include double vision, watery eyes, light sensitivity, pain between your eyes and forehead, burning eyes, eye strain, headaches, etc.

The exercises listed below will help you stimulate your eye muscles and increase blood circulation to them.

3 Tips For Weak Eye Muscles

  1. Changing focus

These days, we spend a lot of time in front of a computer screen or on our phones. And staring at such a bright screen at such a close distance can be tiring on the eyes.

By following a 20-20-20 eye rule you can reduce the strain on your eye muscles to a great extent. For every 20 minutes spent in front of a screen, try to look away for 20 seconds at something 20 feet away from you.

  1. Blinking and yawning

But aren’t we blinking already? We certainly are! However, when we are concentrating on something such as reading or writing, we blink far less frequently. The quickest ways to moisten your eyes are to blink and yawn.

So take a break from whatever is causing your eyes to tense up and try blinking and yawning to refresh yourself and your eyes.

  1. Rest

Finally, it is important to allow your eyes to rest after a long day of work.

Even while working out at the gym, the rest interval between each set is important. In other words, make sure you get a good 8 hours of sleep every day so your eyes can work their best the next day.

Having said that, it is important to note that the above exercises are to help you strengthen your eye muscles and reduce the risk of future eye problems. These exercises cannot treat your vision problems.
