The COVID-19 pandemic impacted our daily lives and disrupted many industries. So when the news of a vaccine came in, the world took notice. For every country, the final aim has been to stop transmission, prevent the spread of the virus and save lives — along with economic recovery.
India started the world’s largest vaccination drive — its national vaccination programme — on January 16, 2021. The first phase prioritized vaccinating an estimated three crore healthcare workers and the frontline workers. The second phase of the vaccination drive began in March 2021 for people above 60 years of age, and those over 45 years with comorbidities.
The inoculation campaign is to protect citizens from the coronavirus outbreak, and it has been gaining momentum. Many government and private hospitals are seeing a substantial turnout for vaccine jabs daily. The number of senior citizens getting vaccinated has also increased. Thousands of healthcare personnel and frontline workers have received the second dose, and the registrations for it are still open.
At Prasad Netralaya, we strongly believe that our doctors, nurses, technicians, transporters, EMTs, pharmacists and everyone who supports patient-care — our frontline workers — are the heart of the nation. Even more so, at a time like this when the world has been grappling with the pandemic for over a year.
Among the first to be vaccinated as part of India’s vaccination drive, were about 10 million health workers — who were at high risk of exposure. The Government of India has provided free vaccines for the people working in the Healthcare Sector. Connecting with this commitment of the Central Government, Prasad Netralaya conducted a Vaccination Drive for its frontline workers — at the super-speciality eye hospital in Udupi. The booster dose of the vaccine was administered to them.
The dedication that the frontliners have, and the commitment and courage they display — deserve our deepest gratitude and admiration. We were beyond honoured and elated when each one of our frontline workers at Prasad Netralaya received their vaccination, at our eye care facility. It also helped us to take the first step towards a COVID-free nation.
While we are thankful to the Central Government for prioritizing the vaccine to the citizens who needed it the most, we are also humbled by the response we received for our recent Vaccination Drive. It is worth mentioning that it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of all the people at Prasad Netralaya — who worked incredibly hard and passionately towards the event. They deserve our heartfelt appreciation too!
We urge the nation’s citizens to get vaccinated when it is their time to do so and also take care of their health and the health of their dear ones.
