Netra Jyoti Charitable Trust

Netrajyothi Charitable Trust is a non-profit, non-commercial, ophthalmic service organization in Udupi, Karnataka, India. It is a sister concern of Prasad Netralaya, a specialty eye care center which is one of its kind in the region. We have a track record of undertaking community service since our inception in 2002.

Till date, Netra Jyothi Charitable Trust has taken more than 2,000 eye camps and conducted more than 50,000 free surgeries for the economically challenged. The cornerstone of our approach to the patients in the outreach camps has been the quality that we have provided. The surgeries are all conducted in the hospital. For this, we provide services that enable the patients to be brought to the hospital and dropped back home post-surgery or treatment. The patients are provided with high quality surgical and medical facilities whilst ensuring that the patients don’t feel a sense of inferiority even though the surgeries are done for free.

Free spectacles are supplied at almost all the camps. School eye health is a project which has been a regular feature of our agenda. Last year, we provided 10,000 glasses to the underprivileged children studying in government schools around the town of Udupi. This year, we have taken the initiative to go big and screened all the primary and secondary school children in government schools in the entire district. Children who need special ocular care are referred to the hospital and the examination and corrective procedures are done in accordance.

All the major Industrial screening for the employees is done by the Community Ophthalmology Department. We have screened more than 2000 employees in and around Udupi and Mangalore in the last 6 months.
